Carhartt Finds Home & Following for Sizeable Collection at G&L Clothing
The subject of much enthusiasm is a sherpa-lined Carhartt jacket at G&L Clothing on Ingersoll Avenue, downtown Des Moines.
Carhartt is an American staple – outfitting the “active worker.” Carhartt offers a massive collection of outerwear, shirts, pants and jeans, bibs and coveralls, long johns and accessories. Traditionally known for its “brown duck” tightly woven canvas jackets, Carhartt is meeting the needs of lifetime buyers to a younger generation of shoppers with the introduction of new styles, fabrics and colors. Some of these introductions include olive and gray polycotton-blend outerwear fabrics for men, and plum and chocolate brown limited edition sweatshirts and jackets for the ladies.
Carhartt is a classic, blue collar fashion that is quickly finding traction in the indie and art crowds. For example, my 79 year-old grandfather wears Carhartt for hunting, and so does my 22 year-old little sister who wears it on canoe trips and for walking around campus in Minnesota.
G&L Clothing is stocked deep with Carhartt with sizes from Small to 10X (including tall and big sizes). G&L clothing has been hopping for 95 years offering work- and casual-wear brands. As owner Frank Marcovis says, “(Men) think of it as a hardware store and just start walking around.”
In addition to wildly popular store, G&L Clothing also has a large e-commerce presence.
